Warm data is a type of qualitative data that offers a more in- depth understanding of a particular phenomenon than is usually acquired through quantitative data. It contains detailed descriptions, characteristics, and insights that are acquired through personal perspectives and direct experiences. Warm data also provides a contextual understanding of the data so that it can be better interpreted or extrapolated from, allowing for a better understanding of the participants, their activities and motivations, and underlying dynamics. By taking a holistic, open-ended approach to the research process, warm data allows for uncovering of unexpected trends, providing a much more comprehensive view of the data being studied.
